Crossplay Status: Confirmed

Cross-platform play is an official launch feature, not a promise for later. The official launch announcement states it directly:

"Cross-platform play allows friends and family to play together whether they're on PC, PS5, or Nintendo Switch 2."

That covers the three platform families the game launched on: Steam (which serves both Windows and Mac players), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Crossplay Compatibility Matrix

Steam (PC) Steam (Mac) PS5 Switch 2
Steam (PC)
Steam (Mac)
PS5
Switch 2

Every combination works. There are no platform-exclusive multiplayer pools and no split in the player base — one shared co-op world.

How to Set Up Cross-Platform Co-op

The exact steps depend on which platforms are in your group, but the pattern is the same everywhere: one player hosts a lobby and the rest join through their platform's friends and invitation system.

  1. Make sure everyone owns Big Walk on their platform of choice. A Steam copy does not grant a PS5 copy — each player buys the game on their own platform, and Steam Family Sharing will not cover a second player in the same session. PC and Mac players should check the system requirements before buying.
  2. Add each other as friends within the relevant platform services (Steam friends, PlayStation Network friends, Nintendo friends). Cross-platform invites are handled through the game's lobby system once players are friends on their own platforms.
  3. The host creates a lobby and sends invites. The rest of the group accepts through the game's lobby screen.
  4. If a player cannot join, check versions. Only the first two numbers of the version have to match, so 1.4.8 and 1.4.9 are fine together. Crossplay sessions break when players run genuinely different builds — more on that in the online fix guide.

Note for console players: online play on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms can be subject to each platform's own online services and requirements. If you picked up the PS5 version free with PlayStation Plus Essential, check the current requirements on the PlayStation Store before assuming online co-op access.

Common Crossplay Questions

Can Steam and PS5 players play Big Walk together?

Yes. Cross-platform play between PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5 is officially supported.

Can Mac players join Windows players?

Yes. Both the Windows and macOS versions are on Steam and share the same online player base.

Can Switch 2 players join a Steam lobby?

Yes. Nintendo Switch 2 is included in the confirmed crossplay platforms.

Is crossplay between Epic Games Store and Steam available?

There is no Epic version to cross-play with yet. An Epic Games Store release has been announced, but the store page is not live, so every PC copy in circulation today is a Steam copy. We will test Epic-to-Steam lobbies once the store page goes up.

Does Big Walk crossplay include voice chat across platforms?

The in-game proximity voice chat works for your group regardless of platform. See the voice chat guide for how it behaves.

Is Big Walk crossplay with Xbox available?

No. Big Walk has not been announced for Xbox consoles, so there is no Xbox crossplay.

Crossplay vs. Cross-Progression

Crossplay means players on different platforms can play together — Big Walk supports this. Cross-progression means your save, achievements and progress follow you between platforms — this is a separate feature that is not part of the crossplay announcement. If you are choosing a platform for the long term, treat your save as living on the platform where you play.
